I really love the feel of cozy, intimate, neighborhood bars like Water Witch, for example. You know, bars that don’t have wall-to-wall TV screens, but prefer to provide entertainment via old-fashioned vinyl.
One such bar is the recently opened Seabird at The Gateway, which is technically called Seabird Bar & Vinyl Room. It’s a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it bar that probably can’t accommodate more than about two dozen people, which is exactly how I like it.
It’s the perfect place to tuck in and enjoy your favorite long playing records (remember those?) while enjoying a craft cocktail from one of the talented and friendly mixologists at Seabird.
A really scrumptious (if foo-foo) drink I like at Seabird is their Pain Killer. It’s made with a combination of dark and light rums, orange and pineapple juices, Coco Lopez, vanilla and nutmeg, all served with an umbrella and fresh garnishes in a tiki glass. It’s a sweet tasting drink but don’t be deceived; it packs a punch.
Seabird also feature some good bars snacks, like a huge serving of salted Marcona almonds for a mere 3 bucks. There’s also meat and cheese trays featuring Creminelli meats and an assortment of Greek olives.
Seabird is a little hard to find – tucked away beside its sister concept, La Barba Coffee – but it’s well worth tracking down.
