Exclusive Dog Lake Wine Debuts at Log Haven

Log Haven’s new Dog Lake wine blend, made in collaboration with Longoria Wines, celebrates Millcreek Canyon with a bold Syrah-led profile available only at the restaurant.

For the past few years, the folks at Log Haven restaurant in Millcreek Canyon have partnered with Longoria Wines in Santa Barbara County, California to create a distinct red wine blend that is sold exclusively at the restaurant.

This year’s signature Log Haven wine is called Dog Lake, named for the iconic hiking destination at the top of Millcreek Canyon.

Log Haven says, “This is the 7th Log Haven Exclusive Wine made by Longoria Wines and marks a departure from our previous blends. It is dominated by Syrah—a varietal that is thriving in the Ballard Canyon region of Santa Barbara County.”

They add: “No dogs sipped, slurped, or swirled any wine during this photo shoot. DOG LAKE is strictly for the humans.”

The exact blend of Log Haven Dog Lake Red is 90% Syrah, 8% Petite Sirah, and 2% Grenache. Dog Lake is available exclusively at Log Haven by the bottle or by the glass.

  • Utah Craft Whiskey: How Barrels and Utah’s Climate Shape Flavor

Utah’s craft whiskey scene is shaped by more than grain, yeast, and time. The state’s dry climate plays an unusually powerful role in how spirits age, intensifying the relationship between whiskey and the barrels that hold it.

Low humidity accelerates evaporation during aging, often claiming 14–18 percent of a barrel’s contents as the “angel’s share.” Unlike more humid regions where alcohol evaporates faster, Utah barrels tend to lose more water, concentrating flavor and driving proof upward over time. That accelerated interaction pulls sugars, tannins, and spice from the wood more quickly, creating whiskeys that often taste older and more structured than their age statements suggest.

To understand how Utah distillers are deliberately harnessing climate, char, and finishing barrels to shape flavor, two producers at the forefront of that experimentation — Sugar House Distillery and Spirits of the Wasatch — shared how barrel choices influence everything from sweetness and spice to texture and proof.
