Normally, I write about my favorite wines in this space. But, I enjoy drinking beer, too.

So this week I’m turning my attention to an enticing new fruit beer from Germany: Schöfferhofer Pomegranate Hefeweizen.

This is the world’s first heffeweizen pomegranate beer, according to the folks at Schöfferhofer, and was recently introduced exclusively to locations in the Pacific Northwest, including Oregon, Washington and Utah.

It’s a very low-alcohol brew, weighing in at a light 2.5%, which makes this crisp hefe an easy-drinking beer, to say the least. It’s a half-and-half blend of 50% unfiltered German heffeweizen and 50% pomegranate juice. I’m enjoying this fruity beer now, but I’m really looking forward to sipping it in spring and summer.

If you like the flavor of pomegranates like I do, you’ll love this light German heffeweizen.
