Perfect Chinese-Style Instant Pot Rice

Instant Pot rice that almost always comes out perfect. The recipe is not only simple, but produces a Chinese-style rice for your favorite Chinese fare.

I love cooking rice in my Instant Pot, since it almost always comes out perfect. Here is a really simple Instant Pot recipe – probably the simplest I’ve ever shared – for cooking slightly sticky, Chinese-style white rice. It’s the perfect accompaniment for all your favorite Chinese fare. Note: You can increase or decrease the rice amount in this recipe. Just be sure that you keep the same 1 to 1 ratio of rice to water.

Ingredients:

1 cup Jasmine rice

1 cup cold water

¼ to ½ tsp. Fine sea salt (optional)

Method

  1. Rinse the rice under cold water by gently scrubbing the rice with your fingertips in a circling motion. Pour out the milky water, and continue to rinse until water is clear. Be sure to drain the rice really well.
  2. Add 1 cup of rice and 1 cup of cold water to the Instant Pot Pressure Cooker.
  3. Close the lid, turn the Venting Knob to Sealing Position. Pressure Cook at High Pressure for 3 minutes, then Natural Release for 10 minutes. Turn the Venting Knob to the Venting position to release the remaining pressure. Open the lid quickly.
  4. Add the optional salt to the rice for seasoning or top it with your favorite seasonings or spices, such as cumin seed or togarashi.
  5. Fluff the rice with a fork and serve warm.
