Wapisa Wine Dinner at Urban Hill

Wapisa winery is the only Coastal Winery in Patagonia, Argentina, and also the only winery in Argentina to age wines under the sea. According to the winery, Patricia Ortiz, owner of Wapisa, “decided to incorporate the ocean into the aging process. The pressurized atmosphere with its constant temperature provides perfect conditions for aging wines.”

“Wapisa is the indigenous Patagonian word for ‘whale.’ Not only do whales frequent the nearby coast of our vineyards, but a local legend talks of a Wapisa that actually lived on land. Our wines, like the Wapisa, are an expression not just of their soils but of the nearby ocean as well. Patricia and her winery are dedicated to preserving the land and the sea. The winery not only follows sustainable practices, but Wapisa is a proud Partner in Conservation of the California Ocean Alliance.”

Wapisa produces Malbec, Pinot Noir Sauvignon Blanc, and Cabernet Sauvignon. You can enjoy sampling these Wapisa wines at Urban Hill’s Wapisa Wine Dinner which takes place on Wednesday, May 8, 2024 at 6 pm.

The tentative menu and wine pairings from Chef Nick Zocco and Wapisa are:  Griddled Provolone & Tomato with smoked beets, basil, fermented honey, grilled bread, paired with Wapisa Sauvignon Blanc 2021.

That “welcome” course will be followed by Lardo Wrapped Asparagus with grilled avocado, cured egg yolk, calabrian chili aioli, chicken chicharrón paired with Wapisa Pinot Noir 2021.

The Second Course is Riverence Trout with charred spring onion, white beans, english peas, olive and almond relish, and Wapisa Malbec 2020.

Course #3 will be Creekstone Farms Picanha Steak with fire roasted mushrooms, turnip, chimichurri, paired with Wapisa Cabernet Sauvignon 2019.

Dessert is Flourless Chocolate Torte with dulce de leche crema, candied pistachios.

The cost per person for the 21 and over Wapisa Wine Dinner is $140 ($90/food & $50/wine). 20% gratuity will be added to all parties. 2% gratuity applied to Culinary Team Appreciation. Guests will be seated at communal tables unless otherwise noted.
