A Father’s Day Cabernet

Mount Veeder Winery Cabernet Sauvignon 2018 would be a slam-dunk at a Father’s Day BBQ featuring grilled meats.

|

Through the years, one of my favorite California Cabernet Sauvignon producers has been Mount Veeder Winery. I still remember the first vintage I enjoyed, which was the 1990 vintage and it was outstanding. With Father’s Day in mind, why not give a Cabernet-loving dad the gift of Mount Veeder Winery Cabernet Sauvignon 2018, a wine that wine expert James Suckling awarded 95 points out of 100. I guarantee it’ll go over better as a Father’s Day gift than a necktie or tool kit.

The rugged mountain vineyards of Mount Veeder produce grapes with intensely concentrated dark fruit flavors and rich tannins and this Cabernet is no exception. It’s a bold red wine – deeply garnet colored – with plum, currant and black cherry aromas along with hints of vanilla, clove, and mocha. On the palate, blueberry, blackberry, chocolate, and black pepper flavors dominate, with subtle anise notes alongside. This wine is bursting with vibrant fruit flavors and round, fresh tannins. Although not exactly inexpensive, priced at $44 Mount Veeder Winery Cabernet Sauvignon is a Napa Valley steal! This Cabernet would be a slam-dunk at a Father’s Day BBQ featuring grilled meats.
