Opening the production facility at Proper Brewing Co. a year ago meant that for the first time, the brewery has been able to package some of Utah’s favorite beers that were being served for years up at Avenues Proper. Among these is the Lake Effect Gose (née Gose the Gozerian), an archaic German wheat beer that’s sour and tangy, flavored with local salt and coriander. Proper is the first brewery in Utah to revive this style.

This month, Proper Brewing premieres their latest American craft lager, Beckerman’s, for which they’ve teamed up with Real Salt Lake Captain, USMNT member, and World Cup veteran Kyle Beckerman.

March also marks the release of their second batch of Ostara, a Belgian-style Tripel IPA, brewed with grapefruit and lemon peel.

“Floral and tropical notes marry with Belgian yeast’s characteristic high hop rates, and the result is bright, strong and perfect for those first crisp days of spring,” says Marketing & Events Coordinator, Eleanor Lewis.

Their most popular beer is their Hop vs Hop, a double IPA that features a rotating selection of two hops at a time. So far, Proper has held four releases of the Hop vs Hop, with a fifth on the way. For a chance to sample highly exclusive beers, brewers host an event known as Thursday Firkins. “Every Thursday at 5pm, our brewers tap a cask of something unique, usually one of our base beers with the addition of some kind of fruit, hops, or other ingredient,” says Lewis. Chances for tasting these unique beers are pretty slim outside of Thursday Firkins.

On Saturday, May 13, the brewery will host its second annual “Properpalooza,” featuring music, beer and food at their downtown location, 857 S Main St.
