Brunch – Part IV

Silver Star Café

Monte Cristo- Brioche French toast, heritage ham, Swiss cheese, berry-maple, and home fries
Monte Cristo-Brioche French Toast from Silver Star Cafe by Lisa Cilva Ward

1825 Three Kings Drive, Park City, Utah,

When Jeff and Lisa Ward bought the Silver Star Café in 2010, they soon realized they had a gold mine, well at least a coalmine. Five years later, the café was featured  on Food Network’s hit show, Diners, Drive-ins and Dives.

An excellent year-round view complements the Silver Star’s American roots cuisine. In the summer, the spacious patio overlooks the Park City public golf course, and winter patrons can take in the cross-country ski course from the elevated outside deck.

Chef Dan Sweisford creates unique brunch items such as the Smoked Salmon Hash. Chunks of sweet potatoes create the hash base in this flavorful dish that is topped with two eggs and house-made crème fraiche.

For the spicier palate, try the Huevos Rancheros. This stacked delight is served on crisp tortillas with a spicy black bean puree, tomato, avocado and Queso Fresco. The tastes are pleasant and fresh.

Other brunch menu items include the Reuben Benedict with house-made corned beef and a Russian Hollandaise, the Monte Cristo made with Brioche French toast, and Belgian Waffles topped with either a sweet berry compote and whipped cream, or a savory fried chicken gravy and egg.

Silver Star Café is located in Silver Star Village’s historic Spiro Mine. in the Thaynes Canyon area of Park City. The development focuses on arts, recreation and maintaining the history of the area and received an Utah Heritage Award for its accuracy in maintaining the historic heritage of the area, protection of the site’s historic buildings, and use of appropriate materials consistent with accurate renovation and redevelopment of the site’s structures.

The Forgotten Baked Apple is an original, specialty item that consists of a granny smith apple cut open like a flower, seasoned with vanilla and dark brown sugar. The center is packed with granola, cranberries, wrapped in foil tightly to hold in the juices and baked to perfection. Served bubbly hot with ice cream and whipped cream.
