Buxom owner, Jenny Hayes, brings plus size style to Salt Lake.

“I have always felt there was a need for a boutique environment for plus size women,” says Jenny Hayes, owner of Buxom, Modern Plus Boutique. “There are very few of us in the U.S. right now. You can buy indie labels, something unique; you don’t have to wear what everyone else is wearing. The designers I have in my shop are just for plus size women,” Hayes continued.

Special occasion dresses, everyday dresses, jeans, swimwear, shapewear, jackets, coats, tights, purses, shoes, and, coming soon, Halloween costumes are what you can find at Buxom. Everything sells fast in sizes ranging from large to 4X.

Any plus size woman knows you can’t buy boots that fit over your calves. Hayes recently received a shipment of extra, extra-wide calf, all-leather knee boots in two different styles. They start at 18 ½ inches. “I will be the only place that you’ll be able to try on a boot in that size in leather,” says Hayes.

“The big dilemma for a plus size woman is there is so little that they can ever try on. That is why I opened the shop. I try on everything that comes in the shop, so I know how it fits, if it runs true to size or runs large,” says Hayes.

Savvy shoppers, from teenagers to senior women, who really care about their appearance, are her main customers. “It is intimate; I love to take the time to help people. That is the nice thing about coming to a small shop,” says Hayes.

Buxom is open during the Gallery Stroll which takes place on the third Friday of each month. Stop by to shop and check out the local art that displayed on the walls and the only two remaining corbels from the original Hotel Utah.
