When Nathan Larsen was commuting 30 miles a day to his courier job, it didn’t take him long to realize that no one was making the bag that he wanted. He needed more pocket options to stay organized. He wanted a bag with a modern, clean look, made to withstand year-round Utah weather. And, of course, comfortable enough to carry for long distances.

Nathan designed and fabricated his own bag. Friends gave him first-hand feedback on the design, functionality, and fit of his prototypes which he named “Velo City Bags.” Velo, means bike in French, and city is the environment which inspired the design. Nathan decided he wanted to open his own shop. He opened the shop last year and has continued to sell online as well. Both custom and ready-made designs are available both in shop and online.

For those looking to connect with some cyclists in the urban community, Nathan and his wife, Debbie Larsen, put on a few events every year, most notably, the Velo Weekend – a 2-day event in June hosting a variety of bike events. Information can be found on Facebook, through www.velocitybags.com or at the studio: 341 West Pierpont Avenue, Salt Lake City, UT 84101 (385) 202-4181
