Witchfest at Gardner Village. Witchfest is an annual event for the family at Gardner Village on 1100 W. 7800 S, West Jordan. Events include a Witchapalooza Dinner Theater, Breakfast with a Witch, Witch displays & scavenger hunts, Witches Night Out on Saturday evenings, and more. October 12

Twisted Pine Concert. An American Funk Bluegrass Concert at The Monarch, Ogden. With Kathleen Parks on fiddle, Dan Bui on mandolin, Sartori on bass and Anh Phung on flute this group offers improvisation and intricate arrangements. Tickets can be purchased online .

October 13

West Valley Symphony at the Mid-Valley Performing Arts Center, 2525 Taylorsville Blvd. Taylorsville. This “Friday the 13th” performance starts at 7pm. See their website for more information.

October 14

The Makers Hive Market at The Gateway. Held from 11am to 4pm and featuring live music, local makers & vendors, kids arts & crafts, face painting, shopping, and more. This is a family friendly, dog friendly event.

October 19

Alta Birding Hikes at Alta at Snowpine Lodge. The Tracy Aviary Conservation Team offers a bird survey at Alta in Little Cottonwood Canyon. From 9am to 12pm, the event includes updates on the year’s findings and a guided bird walk. Registration is required.

October 20-22

Scots on the Rocks Moab Celtic Festival. Held at the Center Street Ballpark, this event is celebrating 10 years. This event will include pipe bands & solo competitions, a Highland dance competition, Scottish heavy athletic competitions, clans, vendors and entertainment.

October 26-28

Draper Haunted Trail. From 5pm to 9:30pm nightly at the Ballard Arena (1600 E Highland). Hike along the trail filled with creepy creatures, spooky sounds, and ghostly effects. Tickets at $3.25 per child – 15 and younger, parents are free when accompanying a paying child. Tickets are for specific time slots and are non-refundable. The trail is a third of a mile. Connie Lewis

Connie has been with Utah Stories since 2013, and has enjoyed learning everything involved in producing a monthly magazine. In addition to writing, Connie performs administrative tasks, coordinates writers, photographers and editors, and oversees a million little details. Her least favorite word is ‘deadline.’ A journalism class at the University of Utah sparked Connie’s love of writing. Finding it hard to narrow her interests to just one major, journalism allowed her to explore a wide variety of topics and disciplines. When she is not writing, Connie loves spending time with her family and traveling with her dogs. “It has been a pleasure learning new things about the state I was born in and meeting the people who make Utah great,” she says. Connie plans to continue her love of learning and improving as the magazine moves onward and upward.
