The USDA’s Summer Food Service Program aims to provide low-income meals to children when school is not in session. In an effort to raise community awareness about our local summer
meals program, and teach kids about where their food comes from, the Dairy Council of Utah/Nevada, The Utah State Board of Education, and the Ogden School District have come together to create a fun nutrition and agriculture experience for kids as part of the Summer Meals Program.
“The summer meals program is an excellent way for students to have access to regular, nutritious meals beyond the school year,†says Matthew Anderson, Summer and After school Coordinator for the Utah State Board of Education. “We want the community to be aware of and take advantage of this program.â€
The venue for this event and partnership among the Dairy Council, the Ogden School District and the State Board of Education, provides an excellent opportunity to serve meals in a fun environment while simultaneously introducing kids to the farms behind their foods. “We know that when children understand more about where their food comes from, they are more likely to enjoy foods from all 5-food groups,†says Jenn Harrison, CEO of the Dairy Council of Utah/Nevada.
On July 12th from 10am – 1:30 pm at Lester Park Park in Ogden, children 18 and under will have the opportunity to eat free and visit several stations with food and activities that will allow them to make the farm to table connection.
WHEN: Tuesday, July 12, 2017 | 10:00am – 1:30pm
