On today’s top 5, the Deseret News reported that Beyonce’s new country album features a UVU student.

  1. The Utah Office of Tourism Celebrates Governor Cox’s Fourth Annual Declaration of Dark Sky Month 

Governor Cox declares Utah’s Fourth Declaration of Dark Sky Month. “Dark sky preservation encourages overnight stays, diversifies the Utah product and expands the visitor experience,” Natalie Randall, managing director of the Utah Office of Tourism in a press release. “Utah State Parks, our national parks and community partners have shown tremendous leadership and vision in preserving the night sky throughout the state.” 

  1. School Absences Are Going Up Since COVID

School absences are increasing from 13% in 2016-17 to 28% in 2021-22 according to the New York Times for a share of U.S. students who are chronically absent. The New York Times article said “no issue has been as stubborn and pervasive” in education as the chronically absent students. Chronic absence is typically defined as missing at least 10 percent of the school year, or about 18 days, for any reason, according to The Times. It Looks like children also want to work from home. 

  1. Historic Building Gets Demolished in Salt Lake 

According to Building Salt Lake the investor/owner of the historic Fifth Ward Meetinghouse made plans to demolish the building, but didn’t take the legal steps to get there. Over the weekend social media posts of the historic building’s demolition erupted, but many weren’t 100% sure on the details of what happened.   1. Beyonce’s Country Album Features a UVU Student 

According to the Deseret News, Beyonce’ new country album features a UVU student, Tanner Adell who sings on Beyonce’s cover of “Blackbird”. Adell was a student in UVU’s commercial music program. If you haven’t listened to Beyonce’s album it is a delightful and unique take on country music.
