2for1 Mobile App Purchases $100k in Food to Support Local Restaurants – Restaurants on the 2for1 app will give away the food for free

As local restaurant owners watch profitability plummet due to stay-at-home orders and dine-in suspensions, Provo-based mobile app 2for1 is facilitating a way to support local businesses. 2for1 is partnering with the Gregory and Julie Cook Foundation to purchase $100,000 in food from local restaurants, amounting to approximately 10,000 meals.

The restaurants will then serve the food to 2for1 app users for free. The initiative, called the Utah Restaurant Resurgence, launched on Tuesday, April 14 with Burgers Supreme in Provo.

Consumers who download the free 2for1 app will be able to order from participating restaurants and claim the free offers. No purchase is necessary, but consumers are encouraged to buy
other food items while claiming the free offer. 2for1 users are advised to follow social distancing practices and entirely remove packaging and wash their hands after picking up their order.

The initiative intends to increase the number of customers ordering takeout from restaurants statewide. It supports Utah Gov. Gary Herbert’s 3T Challenge, which invites Utah residents who
are able to eat takeout three times a week. As policy makers and organizations discuss how to help small businesses during the crisis, 2for1 is taking action to offer immediate support.

“Restaurants are facing a big challenge right now, and we want to offer our support in a meaningful way,” said John Cook, 2for1 CEO. “We want to keep restaurants from having to let
go of employees or permanently close their doors. What better way than to let 2for1 app users enjoy a free meal and grab something extra while trying out a new restaurant?”

There is a limit to the total number of free offers, and offers vary between restaurants. When food runs out, the deal will end. 2for1 will send a notification to app users when deals are available at restaurants near them. Users are encouraged to use the hashtag #UtahRestaurantResurgence when sharing about the initiative on social media platforms.
