January 11
Snowshoe Stomp 5K. This race starts and finishes at East Canyon-Mountain Dell Recreation Area. Also featuring a 1K for kids. Registration includes a commemorative t-shirt. Food and beverages will be on hand along with live music at the finish and a clown for the kids. To register and for more information go here.

January 17 – 19
Bluff Balloon Festival. Hosted by the Bluff International Balloon Festival, the event is now in its 22nd year. Held every year during the MLK weekend visit and watch balloons over the red rocks of Bluff and southeastern Utah.

January 18
Winterfest presented by East Canyon State Park at East Canyon State Park, 5535 S Highway 66, Morgan. Learn how to ice fish, ride a snowmobile, cross country skiing and enjoy the tubing hill. Park fees apply, but all activities are free. Hours are from 11am to 3pm.

January 18
34th Annual Sneddon HOF Germanfest at the Golden Spike Events Center, 1000 North 1200 West, Ogden. Bands, food, vendors, and entertainment from 11am to 10pm. Featuring authentic German food and music. This is a family friendly festival. A family pass for 2 adults and up to 4 children is $25, $8 adults, $5 children 3 to 12 (ages 2 and younger are free), $6 for students and seniors. Visit the website for more information.

January 18
1887 Ogden Time Capsule Unveiling. Presented by the Utah State Archives at the Weber County Library, Main Branch, 2464 Jefferson Ave., Ogden from 10am to 5pm. From the cornerstone of the old Central Jr. High School, the box was cut open 60 years ago and then resealed and sent to the Utah State Archives. Come and discover something of the history of early schools in Utah.

January 23 – February 2
Sundance Film Festival. Experience the “ultimate gathering of original storytellers and audiences seeking new voices and fresh perspectives” at the Sundance Film Festival. The program will include dramatic and documentary features and short films, series and episodic content as well as emerging media in the form of multimedia installations, performances and films. Ice Skate at the Gallivan Center, 239 Main Street, Salt Lake City. Open Monday through Thursday 4 to 9pm, Friday through Saturday noon to midnight; Sunday noon to 7pm. Go to the website for pricing and holiday closures.
