Illuminate Salt Lake
The Utah Arts Alliance presents the third annual ILLUMINATE SALT LAKE Festival, November 8 – 9, 2019 from 5 until 10 p.m. at The Gateway. This free event invites the community to explore our city in entirely new ways and to see it in a whole new light, by illuminating our culture and community through art and technology.
Artists working with technology and using light as their medium will use the city as their canvas and create light art displays and exhibits for the community to enjoy and experience a first of its kind experience.
The ILLUMINATE SALT LAKE Festival is a free two-day community art event for all ages and a celebration of innovation and imagination that features installations by more than 30 local and regional artists, live music and performances, kids’ activities, interactive light art demonstrations, virtual reality arts displays, food trucks, local brews & spirits, and much more!
Programming partners include Utah Film Center, Discovery Gateway, Clark Planetarium, Illuminating Engineering Society, Make Salt Lake, Dreamscapes and Utah Arts Alliance. Over 50 artists and performers are involved in creating work for the festival.
LAUNCHING WINTER WONDERLAND AND ART SHOP PIECES
As part of The Illuminate Festival, the UAA and The Gateway have partnered to turn the entire Gateway into a dreamy winter wonderland of light and art. The art installations will premiere at ILLUMINATE SALT LAKE and will be on display through the end of the year. Additionally, the new Art Shop Project window displays will be returning with the theme of “Illuminate,” featuring ten illuminated art displays in windows around the Gateway
On Saturday night, as the festival winds down, there is a special ticketed event called the AFTER GLO PARTY for those 21 years of age and older. The AFTER GLO PARTY, held from 10 p.m. until 2 a.m. will be held at the Union Pacific Depot at Gateway, 400 W South Temple and will feature top DJs and performers, as well as projection mapped displays, light art installations and a silent disco. Cost is $25.
“We’re so excited to be hosting ILLUMINATE exclusively at The Gateway this year,” said Jacklyn Briggs, marketing director for The Gateway. “We are introducing an all new artist-themed Art Shop Project. Artists offer innovative designs in all different mediums that incorporate an element of light and reflect the approaching winter season.
