Kanye West came to Salt Lake City’s Gateway Center and despite the two-day notice he attracted a crowd of an estimated 20,000 people. Utah Stories spoke to Gateway’s marketing Director Jacklyn Briggs about how the visit transpired.

Briggs said that Kanye’s organizing team called Gateway and informed them that they were deciding between three potential locations for his “Sunday Service”, which he decided to have on Saturday. The other possible locations were the Capital and Pioneer Park.

Gateway told Kanye’s team that they would do everything to accommodate them. And on Friday afternoon Kanye’s team informed Briggs that they chose Gateway. With less than 24 hours before the concert began they worked to prepare.

Briggs said that with one Instagram and one Facebook post, followers on the social media sites were asking, “Is this a hoax?” Later, news stations Fox 13 and KSL inquired about the short-notice concert and “It took off like wildfire that he was coming.” The posts announcing Kanye’s pending arrival to Salt Lake City began going viral.

Briggs said that Kanye’s team, “Couldn’t have been better to work with.” She added that they were extremely grateful to the Gateway for providing such excellent hospitality and Kanye’s group said that they had a great concert and a wonderful time in the Beehive State. Kanye’s new record “Jesus is King” will be released at the end of October.
