Fun things to do in Utah

May 10 – 11
Red Butte Garden Spring Plant Sale. There will be an impressive selection of herbs, specialty annuals, vegetables, sun and shade perennials, ornamental grasses, roses, vines, shrubs, conifers, trees, heirloom vegetables, native and water-wise plants available. This annual plant sale is a fundraiser. The sale will run Friday, May 10 from 1-8 pm for garden members only and on Saturday, May 11 from 9 am to 3 pm for the general public. Visit their website.

May 10 – 12
Golden Spike Sesquicentennial Celebration at Promontory Summit. Come Party like it’s 1869! This fun Utah event will be held at the Golden Spike National Historic site, 6200 North 22300th Street West, Corinne, Utah. This event commemorates the linking of the railroad from shore to shore. Event features include music, performances, storytelling, historical reenactments, train demonstrations, frontier village, innovation summit, and steam train demonstrations. Hours vary daily. May 11
Utah Stories presents Made in Utah Brewers Fest. This event will be held from 5 pm to 10 pm at The Gateway, 12 S 400 S, next to Grand Hall. Craft beer, cocktails and spirits, food, and live music will be on hand. Dress up in your best beer drinking outfit, preferably Bavarian or European, and enter to win an awesome giveaway. This is an indoor, over 21 event, so don’t forget your I.D. Tickets are $5 in advance and $10 at the door. Visit the website for tickets and more information.

May 13
Ogden Nature Center Speaker Series: Form in Nature by Alex Frank. Alex is the lead naturalist at Ogden Nature Center and he will be speaking on why zebras have stripes and leopards have spots. He will discuss how every shape, style, and color in nature has a purpose. The lecture starts at 6 pm at the Ogden Nature Center, 966 W 12th Street, Ogden.

May 13
Nights Lights – Sky Lantern Festival. This event is inspired by the traditional Thai Lantern Festival. Lanterns are launched just after dusk. This event is located at Utah Motorsports Campus, 512 Sheep Lane, Erda, Utah, just 30 minutes from downtown Salt Lake City. Prices vary from $15 to $65. Visit Eventbrite to purchase tickets.

May 25 – 26
Utah fun at the Moab Art Fest. Held at Swanny City Park, 400 N 100 W, Moab, this is a free event. Friday, May 25, 10 am to 7 pm and Saturday, May 26, 10 am to 6 pm. This event will feature jewelry, pottery, clothing, fine art, and photography, along with a kids’ tent, food, and entertainment. Go here for more information.
