May Activities

May 10—Train Day: Celebrate the anniversary of the driving of the golden spike. 10am to 8pm at This is the Place Heritage Park. Admission is $5 per person/children 2 and under are free. See their webiste for more information.

May 12—Draper City Arts and Crafts Festival: Draper’s sixth annual festival will be open from 10am to 4pm at Draper Park, 12500 S 1300 E. Admission and Parking is free. The event will feature artisans and craftsmen showcasing a wide range of handcrafted jewelry, pottery, clothing, home decor, fine art, and more. Food, live entertainment, and a classic car show will also be presented. Visit the Draper City webiste for more information.

May 12—Back of Beyond Paddle Race: The Back of Beyond Paddle Race begins 29 miles northeast of Moab on Highway 128 at Dewey Bridge and follows the Colorado River through red rock canyons and into Moab. More information here.

May 12—3rd annual Be a Superhero 5K Fun Run: Come dressed as your favorite superhero and help raise awareness and honor those we attend at end of life. The event is sponsored by the Utah Hospice and palliative Care Organization Volunteer Coordinator Committee. All proceeds of the registration fee goes to the organization and is tax deductible. The race starts at Liberty Park, 900 S 600 E, at 8 am. Online registration until May 11, onsite registration day of the race. Visit their Facebook page for more information.

May 13–19—Amazing Earthfest: Celebrating the centennial of the National and State Parks, Forests, Monuments, and Public Lands of the Colorado Plateau in Kanab. Featuring guided adventures or see documentary films. For registration and more information go here.

May 17–21—Great Salt Lake Bird Festival: Held at various locations, with workshops and speakers, the Great Salt Lake Bird Festival is celebrating 20 years. Visit the website for more information and registration.

May 19–20—Flaming Gorge Fishing Derby: Team registration opens May 18, 11:00am to 8:00pm, Lucerne Valley Marina. Each team can consist of 1–3 people. The entry fee is $200.00 per team. Cash & prizes will be awarded based on the number of entries. There is a 400-team limit. Derby Hats and a meal will be given to all contestants. Go to their website for more information.
