SALT LAKE AREA RESTAURANT ASSOCIATION PRESENTS INAUGURAL SALT LAKE FOOD & WINE FEST
A Series of Ticketed Events Celebrate Salt Lake’s Food, Wine & Spirits Scene, July 7-13

SALT LAKE CITY – The Salt Lake Area Restaurant Association (SLARA) presents the first-ever Salt Lake Food & Wine Fest to showcase the emerging gastro capital’s dynamic culinary offerings. Advance certificates are now available for a menu of themed events that encourage participants to discover and indulge in the food, wine and spirits that have become a prevalent aspect of Salt Lake’s vibrant culture. In addition to individual events and educational seminars taking place from July 7 to 14, participating restaurants will feature special offerings and menus all week long. The festivities officially kick of with SLARA’s Salt Lake Food & Wine Fest joining forces with Eat Drink Salt Lake to promote the best food and wine experiences Salt Lake has to offer on July 6 at Tracy Aviary.

“Given the extent to which Salt Lake’s food and beverage scene has evolved and matured, SLARA believes this is the ideal time to launch an annual event that promotes and celebrates the fact that we have become a significant culinary capital of the Mountain West,” says Michele Corigliano, Executive Director of SLARA. “The Salt Lake Food & Wine Fest will feature a range of delectable events designed to showcase our area’s top talent while appealing to both culinary novices and connoisseurs.”

  • Public Homeless Campers in Salt Lake City Will Be Seeing More Police Presence

Public camping on the Jordan River Parkway Trail in Salt Lake City has become a contentious issue, balancing the needs of homeless individuals with the preservation of public space. Despite a Supreme Court ruling allowing cities to enforce anti-camping laws, the humanitarian crisis persists. Tammy and her husband, unable to find housing, live near the river.

Solutions Utah, led by Dale Keller, addresses homelessness through policy advocacy and clean-up efforts. Keller’s team initiated large-scale clean-ups in 2005, removing tons of garbage. Campers often receive minimal notice to vacate, despite rules requiring 48-hour warnings.

Tammy shares concerns about crime and insufficient support, desiring a sanctioned campground with basic facilities and security. While Keller supports this idea, bureaucratic resistance hinders progress. As enforcement increases elsewhere, the future for Salt Lake City’s homeless remains uncertain.

A challenge to the $2 billion taxpayer funded Little Cottonwood Canyon gondola is in the works. What else could that much money be used for?
Gondola Works was the successful PR and marketing campaign that dazzled UDOT and UTA board members and gained the support of enough Wasatch Front Regional Council members to approve the overall $26 billion plan.

The overriding questions are, Why should we be putting so much energy into a $26 billion plan that only focuses on transporting mostly elite skiers up to our mountains? How does this massive investment help average Utahns?
