“Salt Lake City Surf Shop.” I kept double taking on the sign with intrigue during the surf shops four month renovation process. I was thinking maybe wind surfing or a shop a lets-all-pretend-we-are-cool-and-dress-like- we-live-near-an-ocean shop.

Then I saw the boards: too small for wind surfing, too big for traditional surfing. Visiting I came to understand: There is a new sport that is “getting more popular every year, stand-up paddle boarding. Owner Greg Joyner describes it as, “You can paddle board on any of the great lakes we have here.

Anybody can do it. It doesn’t take an athlete. It’s a great workout and it does a great job for your core. Salt Lake Surfing also caries white water kyaks and anything that has to do with paddle sports. Greg operates the store with his wife Emily.
