July 17, 2019 by Arvid Keeson Leave a Comment

The future starts now The future of farming will look very different than it does today, just like the farming of today looks drastically different than it did 20, 30 years ago. However, the basic structure of the image of what future farming will be is being sketched and worked through right now. And it's a good thing too because, let's face it, Salt Lake City and its … [Read more...]

July 10, 2019 by Arvid Keeson Leave a Comment

Our brave new world—is privacy is a thing of the past? We live in a world where our lives are becoming more and more dictated by social media and algorithm-driven computer platforms. They track us, they learn us, tell us what we want and when we want it,  they know us.   The question, whether or not this sort of technology is a blessing or a curse is obligatory, it must be … [Read more...]

June 20, 2019 by Arvid Keeson Leave a Comment

Medical cannabis will be sown in Utah, but will the profits be reaped elsewhere? Bordered by addiction: Utah’s Opioid epidemic

May 29, 2019 by Arvid Keeson Leave a Comment

Opioids, especially in the last 10–20 years, have swept a destructive path coast to coast, ruining lives and families. And the truly heartbreaking, dismaying reality of it, is many of these deaths came in the form of a prescription filled and picked up at some local pharmacy. Legally.

The Utah Stories Show—podcast VeRonica Little witnesses the severity of Utah's Opioid epidemic every day. As Program Administrator for the Division of Substance Abuse and Mental Health, she is on the front lines in a war that, at times, seems absolutely and dauntingly unwinnable . The Opioid epidemic is so prevalent, and because of the nature and causes of addiction, … [Read more...]

The Nerd Store

May 21, 2019 by Arvid Keeson Leave a Comment

the nerd culture over the years (and what rough years those must've been) have gone from Zeros to Heroes; no longer is it taboo to be reading a comic book or getting together with some friends to play Magic or D&D—Nerd is the new cool.

Just like any subculture, there are various elements/factions of Geek subculture. Just to name a few, there are Gaming Nerds, Dungeons and Dragon Nerds, Anime Nerds, the list goes on, too and, I'm sure, in much greater and succinct detail. The point is this: the nerd culture over the years (and what rough years those must've been) have gone from Zeros to Heroes; no longer … [Read more...]

May 15, 2019 by Richard Markosian Leave a Comment

the highest paid cap for Salt Lake City Police officers is lower than Park City, Murray, Heber, Sandy, Cottonwood Heights, Kaysville, and West Valley City, despite the fact that Salt Lake City is much tougher to police.

Wages for Salt Lake City police—Equal pay for equal work Low wages for Salt Lake City police officers are far below other departments, and it absolutely creates a public safety issue for Salt Lake City residents.  It’s been seemingly impossible to turn on the television the last few years and not see some drama unfolding around a cop, a gun, and a person of color. Police … [Read more...]
