The International Rescue Committee has announced that tickets are now available for the IRC in Utah’s upcoming fundraising dinner on May 21: Rebuilding Lives Elevating Futures

The IRC and Spice Kitchen Incubator organizers say, “This will be a truly special & fun event! We’ll gather to enjoy a meal, experience live performances from diverse community members, and engage as a community. It will be a celebratory evening that reflects the vibrancy of the communities we serve, while marking the urgency of the moment.”

Guests can look forward to:

International cuisine, with bites from IRC’s Spice Kitchen Incubator chefs.

Hear from Refugee Voices who call Utah home.

Celebrate the IRC’s Rescue Partner Awardees.

Engage with 200+ local humanitarians.

Fundraise to support the IRC’s local mission and families served in Utah.

The event takes place Thursday, May 21 from 6-9:30pm at The Garden Place at This Is The Place Heritage Park. All funds raised at the event in May will remain in Utah to support our local work to provide vital resources and services to families in our community. Space will be limited—don’t wait to secure your tickets. “Your attendance at Rebuilding Lives Elevating Futures will help sustain this vital work. We hope to see you there!”

Limited Edition May Doughnuts at Pinkbox

According to the creative team at American Fork’s Pinkbox Doughnuts, they have “planned a total of 32 limited-edition, creative doughnuts to release throughout May to celebrate several holidays, including Cinco de Mayo, May the 4th, Mother’s Day, and Memorial Day. Also featured in the offerings is Mango Tango, the May Doughnut of the Month. The special edition treats are limited-time delights and baked fresh daily at the American Fork store, which has elevated Utah County’s doughnut scene since opening in January.”

Special edition Cinco de Mayo doughnuts include Mango Tango (with a Mexican flag decoration), Mama’s Tres Leches and El Guzman Doughcro, available from May 1 though May 5.

Star Wars doughnuts available on May 4 only (May the 4th be with you) include Stormtrooper, The Wookie, Maple Ewok, Yoda Pooh, Princess Leia, Galaxy Ring, Boba Fett, and Galaxy Peeweez.

40th Living Traditions Festival

Mark your entertainment calendars for May 15-17, 2026 because that’s when the 40th annual Living Traditions Festival will take place at the Civic Center – 200 E 400 S in SLC.

The Living Traditions Festival is a free multicultural festival produced by the Salt Lake City Arts Council in partnership with the Utah Division of Arts & Museums. Presenting live music, dance, crafts, and food, Living Traditions supports the preservation of diverse traditions and perspectives.

My favorite part of the Living Traditions Festival is the wide variety of food and global flavors available at the International Food Market sponsored by Harmons Grocery. Culinary attractions range from Empanadas, Kalua Pork and Basque Chorizo Sandwiches to Tlayudas, Mango Sticky Rice, Navaho Taco, Borsch, Mommos, Arepas, Gyros and much more.

Among the food vendors this year are the Basque Club of Utah, Italian-American Civic League, Asociación de Colombianos en el exterior, National Tongan American Society, St Archangel Michael Serbian Orthodox Church, Utah Tibetan Association, Native American Events, Pakistani Association, Nepalese Association Of Utah, Thai Association, Utah Argentina Alliance, 8th Street Greek Food, Oaxaca en Utah, The Vietnamese Volunteer Youth Association, Centro Civico Mexicano, Utah Ukrainian Community and Mama Africa.
