Free Events in Utah This May 2026: Festivals, Markets, Hikes and Family Activities

A full lineup of free events across Utah this May, including festivals, outdoor markets, guided hikes, live music, and family-friendly activities from Salt Lake to Moab.

May 5

Cinco De Mayo with Draper City. This is a  free event with  activities for the whole family. Along with food and entertainment, there will be sugar skull style face painting provided by students from Canyons School District and the Draper Mayor’s Youth Council. 6 pm to 8 pm at Draper City Park, 12501 S 1300 E. 

May 6 

Natural History Museum Foothill Nature Walk. This is a series of free 1-hour guided hikes starting at the Natural History Museum of Utah and proceeding along the Bonneville Shoreline Trail. Local experts will explain about the flora and fauna seen along the way. Other walks are planned for May 13 and June 3. It is a first come, first served basis with attendance capped at 20. Starting time: 5:30 pm

May 8

2026 Arts and Ag: A Moab Market. This is a free family friendly event at Swanny City Park, 400 N 100 W, Moab. The outdoor market will feature local and regional artists, food, products, activities, and live music. Held from 5 pm to 8 pm. Additional dates include June 12, July 10, September 11, and October 9.

May 9

South Salt Lake Mural Fest. Presented by the South Salt Lake Arts Council at South Salt Lake Creative Industries Zone. Held from 2 pm to 8 pm, this open-air exhibit is at 151 W Commonwealth Ave, close to Trax for easy access. Discover 10 new murals alongside street performers and local food trucks. This is an interactive experience with artists stationed at their murals until 6:30 to answer questions. Find more information at TheMuralFest.com.

May 9

Utah’s Own 2nd Annual Spring Market. One-stop shop for 100% local treasures and Mother’s Day gifts, plus a butterfly release at noon. They will also have a highland calf there from 11 am to 5 pm. Held at Oliver’s Place in Pleasant Grove, 125 S 2000 W. 

May 15

Heber Valley Railroad Military Appreciation Train. This 90-minute round trip will include the Utah Military History Group on board. Also, authentic World War II US military uniforms and gear. Pre-boarding photos will be available with the WWII group. The train will depart at 7 pm sharp and will return at 8:30 pm. Visit hebervallyrr.antix.io for tickets and more information. Veterans ride free. 

May 16

2026 Ogden Marathon. Presented by America First Credit Union, this event will include full, half, relay, 8.2 mi and 5K runs accompanied by a community festival at Ogden Municipal Gardens. Will feature live music, food trucks, vendors, and a kid zone. Go to ogdenmarathon.com for more information and to register for the races. 

May 18 

2026 Jazz in the Park. Get ready for summer with a day of jazz at the Sandy Amphitheater, 1245 E 9400 S. The event will feature top high school jazz bands and is free and open to all – no tickets required. Gates open at 2 pm and the event will run from 3 pm to 10 pm. Food trucks will be available, but outside food and drink is allowed.

May 30

2026 Utah Lake Festival. This free admission event is a great way to learn about what is being done to improve the lake and promote recreation activities. There will also be a cardboard boat race, paddleboard jousting, a rock climbing wall, mini gold, sailboat rides. Also the Provo Farmers Market will have their first market of the summer season. Held at Utah Lake State Park.
