The Perfect Girls’ Day in Park City: Brunch, Shopping, Spas & Nightlife

After a week of work, grocery shopping, meal prep, driving the kids around, housework and last minute emergencies, a day of bonding and fun with our BFF’s is just what the doctor ordered. Fortunately, one of the best getaways is just a short drive away to Park City.

Let’s face it, sometimes we “girls” just need some “we” time. After a week of work, grocery shopping, meal prep, driving the kids around, housework and last minute emergencies, a day of bonding and fun with our BFF’s is just what the doctor ordered. Fortunately, one of the best getaways is just a short drive away to Park City.

So pack up the vehicle with your closest friends, leave the inversion and daily grind behind, and travel to one of Utah’s most popular playgrounds.

10:30 AM to Noon

Start by celebrating the day with a quintessential ladies brunch. The Red Rock Cafe at Kimball Junction is bright and cheery and the perfect place to catch up on each other’s lives. It’s so easy to lose touch with friends and loved ones however once the mimos, Bloody Marys and caffeine drinks start flowing, everyone starts to relax and let loose. “Although I’m only an hour from home, it feels like I’m on vacation,” said one Ogden resident.

Noon to 2:00 PM

With full stomachs and a fresh spring in your step, head over to Junction Commons—more commonly known as the outlet mall. Home to popular retailers around, like Banana Republic, Coach, Michael Kors and Ulta, you and your gal pals can shop and explore to your heart’s content. “I feel like a teenager, hanging with my besties, gossiping and trying on clothes,” said a visitor from Tremonton. “We haven’t stopped laughing and talking since we got here.”

2:00 PM to 2:30 PM

While you could potentially spend all day (and evening) at the mall, pull yourself away from spree shopping and head into town. But before you officially begin your Main Street adventure, take a tip from this local girl, and park your car at the Park City High School.

You see, despite the name, Park City is very lacking in parking places. So, instead of fighting for a space, which will usually require you to pay, park at the school and take advantage of the free transit system. There are bus stops all over town, including right in front of the high school, and you can download the Park City transit app to get schedule and route information.

(If you plan on drinking later, this would also be a good time to confirm a designated driver.)

2:30 PM to 4:00 PM

Once you’re parked at the high school, take a quick stroll across the street and around the corner to Anny’s Nail Salon & More. This woman-owned spa is the perfect place to treat yourself to relaxation and pampering. Stories and memories really start flowing once massage chairs get activated and reflexology begins. “I look forward to this every week,” said one local. “I have two little ones under the age of three, and while I love them completely, I need this for my own balance and inner peace. It makes me a better parent and wife.” Whatever treatment you choose—mani/pedi, hydrating mask, foot detox, etc.—you will feel the stress, muscles aches and joint pain melt away. “I always leave here feeling brighter and better about myself.”  Although walk-ins are welcome, make a reservation in advance. This way you and the girls can all be seated together and can enjoy the spa experience as one.

4:30 PM to 6:00 PM

After the refresh at the salon, catch the bus outside of Anny’s and head to Main Street. Once there, head to the Gem Studio, located inside the Prospect Building.

Situated on the second floor is this hidden jewelry workshop. Inside the glimmering loft, you can design, create and solder your own sterling silver jewelry piece. Everything you will need is provided, including all the materials and equipment, so all you have to do is select what you want—ring, necklace, bracelet, bolo tie or charm. Each experience is personalized, with workshops lasting from 45 minutes to three hours.

In addition to the workshop, you can have a piece of jewelry permanently placed on your body. The process is simple and includes selecting a bracelet, anklet, necklace, body chain or ring and having it soldered in place. Said one visitor from Evanston, WY, “I picked out a delicate ankle chain but there are bolder, more dramatic options as well.”

But, perhaps the most rewarding part of the experience is knowing that as you’re creating a piece of jewelry you’re also helping an orphan in Uganda. The company’s owner, Matt James, worked for years with an impoverished community in Uganda. “I was able to build a humble, three bedroom school in Uganda which provides education, food and housing for orphaned and homeless children,” said James. “The school continues through today and is why every purchase at the Gem Studio goes to support its expenses and children.”

6:00 PM to 8:30 PM

By now, you must be getting hungry for dinner, and you are definitely at “The Place” to find it. Main Street has everything from five star restaurants to cozy cafes, to gourmet sandwich shops, but regardless of where you choose to dine, the experience will be unique. “It’s worth it just for the ambiance, service and presentation, let alone the amazing food,” said a guest from out of town. “It truly is a five star experience.”

There is a sense of inclusiveness and enthusiasm that radiates throughout Main Street. “While no shirt, no shoes, no service” may apply at most establishments, that’s where any type of dress codes or restrictions end. Slickers, jeans, shorts and tank tops are just as welcome as suits, ties and dresses. “It’s like being on a vacation in another state or country and eating at an exotic restaurant,” said my Tremonton friend.

8:30 PM to ………

Once the sun goes down on Main Street, the party really begins. Dusk signals that it’s time to let loose and have fun.  Twinkling lights and colored bulbs brighten the entire street as the air is filled with excitement and energy. “The crowds grow larger, as laughter and chatter are everywhere,” one visitor told me.

A really fun way to tackle Main is to do a pub crawl—start at the top and work your way down. This is the time to enjoy yourselves and be young again, and  with Park City holding the world record for the longest Shot Ski, it’s only fitting that you and your BFF’s partake in a Shot Ski together. “I forgot how cool my friends are,” said one bestie. “This is awesome!”

Now that the night is coming to an end, you and your gal pals are ready to take the bus back to your car and head home.

Of course, while you take the drive down the canyon you relive the day’s adventures and perhaps, plan your next girl’s day out.
