Free Pet Food in Salt Lake City: Street Dawg Crew Helps Pets of the Homeless

A local nonprofit is quietly helping some of Utah’s most vulnerable residents care for their pets, offering free dog and cat food twice a month in downtown Salt Lake City. Alongside this effort, upcoming community events bring chocolate making, live music, and food trucks into the spring season.

Street Dawg Crew Pet Food Outreach

I normally write about food for humans. However, this week I want to give a shout out to the Street Dawg Crew of Utah, helping folks in hard times to feed their dogs and cats. The Crew says, “Our pet food outreach in Salt Lake City takes place every 2 weeks on Sunday from 12-1 pm. The next outreach will be on Sunday, April 12th. No qualifications. Just show up for free dog and cat food. Held at Pioneer Park in downtown SLC at 350 South 300 West on the northwest corner of the park from 12-1 PM.”

The Street Dawg Crew is a 501(c)3 organization serving pets of the homeless and other vulnerable populations in Utah, providing free pet food and other basic pet needs.

Upcoming Ritual Chocolate Events

Reservations are now open for upcoming Ritual Chocolate events such as Taste Chocolate Like an Expert on April 23rd: Learn how to properly taste chocolate while enjoying pairings that might surprise you. On May 7th it’s Truffle Making Class where guests will make their own hand-rolled truffles and learn about the chocolate making process and take home truffles for friends and family to enjoy. Sound Bites at Millcreek Commons

Yes, it’s true that I used to have a show on KSL NewsRadio 1160 called Sound Bites. This, however, is not that. On Fridays from April 3rd through May 29th the organizers of Sound Bites Sunset Market invite you to “Grab a friend, get some grub, and groove into the weekend with live music and delicious food trucks.” It’s a perfect combination of great food and music.

The event at Millcreek Commons runs on Fridays from 6 to 9 PM and kicks off with live music from Karli McKinnon and the amazing Michelle Moonshine and her band. The food truck lineup includes Jamaica’s Kitchen, Jurassic Tacos, Mo’s Chicago Dog, Best Ever Burgers, and Draper U Swirl. It all takes place at Millcreek Commons: 1354 East Chambers Ave.

Originally trained as an anthropologist, Ted Scheffler is a seasoned food, wine, and travel writer based in Utah. He loves cooking, skiing, music, and reading, and spends an inordinate amount of time tending to his ever-growing herd of guitars and amplifiers.
