Pizza Bar Opens on Regent
Scott Evans, founder of the Pago Restaurant Group, reached out last week with some news: Scott said, “For the keen observer, it may have been spotted that a pizzeria was in the works at Pago Group. There has been a slight tease at Sugar House Station with our mini version serving pizza al taglio (grandma slices) or the sold out pizza pop up we did late last year. Well the time has come for the official unveiling, Pizza Bar opened at 126 Regent Street.” This is the space that was previously home to Finca Pintxos Bar.
Evans continued, “Pizza Bar is a collaboration of three industry veterans – Chef Brandon Price, Chef Phelix Gardner and myself (the restaurateur and wine guy). Chef Brandon brings some serious pizza chops to partnership and TBH, I think he makes the best pizza in Utah. Chef Phelix is the master of opening restaurants, building teams and operations, as well as being one of the top chefs in Utah – someone please nominate him for a James Beard Award! I like to think I can put together a great wine list and beverage program. Together, I think we can make some magic happen in that small storefront next to Eccles theatre.”
Pizza Bar will specialize in two pizza styles: Pizza al Taglio/Grandma Slice and Neo-Neapolitan whole pies. The beverage program will focus on natural wines plus some craft beer, cider and a shot + beer menu.
No reservations; first come, first served.
I’m looking forward to checking out Pizza Bar myself and will report back with results.

Monte SLC Finds Permanent Home
Monte SLC – a unique pop-up gourmet restaurant concept – has found a permanent home at Beehive Distilling (2245 S. West Temple). Monte is a singularly extraordinary culinary experience that aims to highlight the richness of natural ingredients and biodiversity in the state of Utah.

According to Chef Martin Babio, founder of Monte, “Unlike traditional restaurants, Monte is not just a place to dine; it’s a journey into the heart of Utah’s diverse ecosystems through unique and immersive culinary experiences. This project seeks not only to delight diners with authentic flavors but also to promote sustainability, environmental conservation and local economic development.”

The Monte menus change depending on what is “seasonal, local, and wild to create an exceptional culinary experience.” On opening night Babio was joined in the open kitchen by esteemed chef Takashi Gibo.

Summer seatings at Monte are available on TOCK and menus include a midweek 5-course menu for $95 pp; a 12-14-course menu for $175 pp; and a 7-course menu for $115 pp.
