April Events in Utah: Trailfests, Reptiles, Costumes, and Candlelight

From slaloming in costume to candle making in a teacup, Utah’s April calendar is anything but ordinary. Celebrate Earth Day in Alta, explore reptile expos, or race the Easter Bunny—there’s something unexpected around every corner.

April

Registration is open for The Northern Utah Trailfest (The NUT). The event will take place October 3rd-5th at the North Fork Park in Eden, returning for its fourth year. In a celebration of trails the event brings together runners, hikers, mountain bikers, and nature lovers just in time for the fall colors. Early bird registrations come with a discount until June 1st. Sponsored by the GOAL Foundation who, “are working to create a healthier, happier community where everyone has access to outdoor recreation opportunities.” Learn more about the event and sign up here.

April 5-6

Reptilian Nation Expo. Held at the Mountain America Expo Center, 9575 S. State, thousands of reptiles, amphibians, arachnids, and more will be on display. April 5 hours are 10am to 6pm with a 9am VIP opening and April 6 from 10am to 5pm.

April 8

An Evening of Percussion. Presented by the University of Utah School of Music at Libby Gardner Hall. The program starts at 7:30 and tickets are $13.50 for adults with free admission for youth 6 to 18 and those with an ARTSPASS. 

April 11

Meditation Chapel Tour. Presented by Preservation Utah at Memory Grove Park. Located at the park found at the base of City Creek Canyon. This is a free walk up tour with no pre-registration required. The tour takes you through the chapel’s interior, but does not include a guided tour of the rest of the park’s monuments. Held from 11am to 1pm with further events scheduled on the second Friday and fourth Saturday each month.  

April 12

Costume Slalom at Brian Head Resort. Bring your best costume and take a race through the slalom course in front of Giant Steps Lodge. Compete for prizes. Hours are from 10am to 3pm. Check here for more information. 

April 12

2025 Park City Pond Skim. Presented by Park City Mountain Resort at Park City Mountain Resort. Held at the Eagle Race Arena this is the 3rd Annual Eagle Super Pond Championship. Skimmers attempt to make it across the pond. Food, drinks, and music will also be available. 11am to 2pm. 

April 12

Teacup Candle Making Class. Held at the Salt Lake City Library Corinne and Jack Sweet Branch, 455 F St. For ages 18 and up. All supplies provided. Registration is required at the website. 2pm to 3:30pm  

April 12

16th Annual Alta Earth Day. Celebrate earth at this event hosted by the Alta Environmental Center. Sustainable and local organizations from the Salt Lake area will be on hand to explore the impact of climate change on recreation in Little Cottonwood Canyon as well as ways to protect the area. Activities, vendors, skiing & snowshoeing tours, live music, and more will be available. Free event, held from 9am to 3:30pm.

April 19

Moab Easter Egg Hunt. Sponsored by Moab City Recreation at Swanny City Park from 10am to 11am. Free event.

April 19

     West Valley City’s Outdoor Easter Egg Hunt. Held at Centennial Park, 5405 W. 3100 S. West Valley City. The event starts at 8:30am at the Softball Complex. For kids 12 and under and split into age groups: 4 to 5, 6 to 8, 9 to 12. There are also flashlight Easter Egg Hunts on the 18th for teens at 9pm for those ages 13 to 17, free. And for adults at 9pm for $10 and preregistration here.

April 19

2025 Eggs Legs Half Marathon, 5K and 10K. This race will be held at Gardner Village, 1100 W 7800 S, at 7am. After the race the Easter Bunny will be hosting an Easter Egg Hunt. Pre-register.

April 26

Scouting American, (formerly Boys Scouts of America) Troops 410B and 8410G are hosting a Pulled Pork BBQ Fundraiser. They will also feature a plant sale including geraniums and opportunity baskets. The location is Christ United Methodist Church, 2375 E 3300 S, Millcreek, from 3:30pm to 7:30pm. 

April 28

Astronomy Month Celebration at Orem Public Library, 58 N State Street, Orem. This event celebrations International Astronomy Month and International Dark Sky Week with a night of crafting, games, and snacks. For more information visit their website. Held from 6pm to 7pm.

May 7

Contemporary Cuisine presented by Ogden Contemporary Arts. Held at the Monarch Royal Room, 455 25th Street, Ogden from 6pm to 9pm. This will be an evening of art and flavor with art inspired dishes, along with live music, curated cocktails and desserts. A silent auction will also be held for art, baskets, and local goods. Tickets are $150 and can be found at the Ogden Contemporary Arts web page under “Events”.
