James Fowler and his talented team at award-winning Sugar House Distillery released a very enticing new Bourbon last week, just in time for holiday gift giving. And trust me, Bourbon lovers are going to be thrilled to find this new Bourbon under the tree on Xmas.

James’ newest baby is Sugar House Distillery Blue Corn Bourbon Whiskey ($44.99). This unique Bourbon is made with house-ground heirloom blue corn from the Ute Indian tribe, from the foot of Sleeping Ute Mountain in the Four Corners area, as well as with Red Wheat from Brigham City, Utah. I was told by the purveyors that “No other Utah Whiskey has this kind of Utah pedigree.”

The Blue Corn Bourbon is bottled-in-bond, meaning that it must be made by one distiller at a single distillery in one season, aged for a minimum of four years in a federally bonded warehouse under federal government supervision, then cut and bottled at exactly 100 proof. The only thing you can add to bottled-in-bond whiskey is pure water. So obviously, this Whiskey has no additives. I was also told that this batch was aged for closer to five years than four. It was aged in American oak barrels and is made up of 75% Blue Corn, 20% Red Wheat, and 5% Malted Barley.

The flavor profile of this uniquely Utahan Bourbon is slightly sweet and grain forward, with light toast, honey, cinnamon and graham cracker flavors. The first release is very limited, so grab a bottle or two before they sell out.
