Hearth and Hill Coming to SLC

Leave Room For Dessert Eateries, a fresh, innovative leader in Utah’s flourishing dining scene, is entering Salt Lake’s thriving Sugar House neighborhood, four years after first exploring opportunities in a market ideally suited to its two original and popular Park City concepts: Hearth and Hill, a dine-in restaurant, and Hill’s Kitchen, a café with grab and go.

Owner Brooks Kirchheimer and his group already have a SLC fine dining success on their hands with Urban Hill and have announced the “start of construction on Hearth and Hill, a 6,300 square foot indoor/outdoor space seating 200, and adjoining Hill’s Kitchen, a 3,080 square foot indoor/outdoor storefront seating 120 total. Hearth and Hill will be open daily for lunch, dinner and weekend brunch, while Hill’s Kitchen will be open daily from breakfast through dinner. Catering, based at Hill’s Kitchen in Park City, also will be available. The restaurant and café, which will share a 900 sq ft covered outdoor plaza, are slated to open in early 2025 in The Residences at Sugar Alley, an under-construction eight-story residential and retail development located in the heart of Sugar House, just steps from Sugar House Park. The property, which in its entirety, will feature 193 residences and 17,000 sq ft of ground-floor retail space, is being developed by Lowe Property Group, a Salt Lake City family-owned real estate development and investment firm. The Kirchheimers are again using the renowned Denver-based Semple Brown Design firm, which over its 30 years has created some of the country’s most distinctive restaurants, including Urban Hill.”

The Aerial Tram ride is included in cost. The Aerial Tram departs at 5 pm and 5:20 pm. Event reservations are required to board. Please note that tax and gratuity are not included.”

Tickets for Snowbird’s Brewer’s Dinners are $100 per person.

Manoli’s Sister Restaurant to Open

Some great news for fans (like me) of Manoli’s restaurant. According to Manoli Katsavenas and his team, Manoli’s sister restaurant and market, called Paréa, is opening in September.

According to Manoli’s, “Paréa in Greek culture is a group of friends who regularly gather to share their life experiences, philosophies, values, and ideas. At Paréa, we invite you into a cozy casual environment serving as a place to sit-down and have a hand stacked gyro and a frappé, grab food for family gatherings and dinner parties, or for meal prep to make your week easier. Everything is sourced to consider quality, while prioritizing a focus on products obtained locally, responsibly and sustainably. Grab & Go, Take & Bake, and Ready To Eat items are available to create more time for your ‘paréa’.”

  • When Main Street Burned: The Aftermath of the Salt Lake City Fire That Hit Downtown Bars

Fire doesn’t respect zoning, property lines, or even the most popular block on Main Street. On the evening of Monday, August 11, 2025, a blaze that began around 8:40 p.m. on Main Street. It moved quickly through a row of aging, interconnected buildings that had become the heart and soul of Salt Lake City’s fledgling bar district. By the time firefighters brought it under control, multiple businesses were damaged, dozens of workers were displaced, and one of the city’s most active stretches went dark.

The fire started at London Bell and spread into neighboring structures, severely damaging Whiskey Street. White Horse never caught fire, but smoke, water, and a partial roof collapse caused extensive interior damage, forcing a full rebuild. Other nearby businesses were affected as well, including some that had helped turn this part of Main Street into one of its most active and economically stable stretches.
