January 9

2019 Law Enforcement Appreciation Day 5K & 10K. January 9 is National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day. To honor law enforcement, join in the 5K and 10K virtual runs. The price is $20 and 15% of every registration will be donated to Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.). You have until the end of January to complete your race and turn in your finishing time. A virtual race can be run, or walked, from any location. Run, jog, or walk on the road, trail, or treadmill. Run your own race, at your own pace and time it. Those that complete the race will receive a medal.

January 12
Third Annual Lady Wild Film Fest at Weber State University, Browning Center, Austad Auditorium. The event showcases a variety of films from all over the world with strong female leads or characters. The purpose of the festival is to support ladies in film who are pushing the boundaries of understanding, adventure, and sisterhood in their daily lives. Doors open at 5:30 for ticket holders and tickets can be purchased on site. Click here to purchase tickets.

January 18
Teen Yule Ball at Viridian Event Center, 8030 S 1825 W, West Jordan. A dance for high-school aged wizards and muggles from 7-10pm. This is a formal dance for teen and though it is a free event, tickets are required due to limited space. Visit the website, for tickets and check out the Formal Wear Swap at the Hunter branch, 4740 W 4100 S, West Valley City on Saturday January 12.

January 25 – 27
2019 Absolute Fencing Gear Salt Lake City Women’s Sabre World Cup sponsored by USA Fencing. Watch Olympic and World medalists fence for gold in Salt Lake City. Held at the Salt Palace Convention Center, 100 S West Temple, featuring individual and team competitions. Ticket prices are $5 Friday, $20 Saturday, $15 Sunday, and $30 Saturday/Sunday Pass. January 26
Arches Ultra, 50 miles, 50K, Half Marathon, and 9K. This is the second event in the Triple Crown of Moab. Registration is open here.

Ice Skating
The Gallivan Center, 50 E 200 S, Salt Lake City, is open for ice skating Monday thru Thursdays from 4pm to 9pm, Friday and Saturday from noon to midnight, and Sunday from noon to 7pm. To try the “fastest ice on earth” visit the Olympic Oval in Kearns at 5662 Cougar Lane. Check their website, for dates and times.
