May 31, 2016 by Nick Kuzmack Leave a Comment

The Hidden Garden Tour celebrates its 20th anniversary. The tour was originally organized in 1996 by Intermountain Healthcare in Provo. “They started the Hidden Garden Tour as a way to raise money for their volunteer programs,” says USU Extension Horticulturist Michael Caron. “Then several years ago... they asked Utah County Master Gardener Volunteers if they wanted to organize … [Read more...]

Gateway Changes

May 27, 2016 by Babs De Lay Leave a Comment

The Gateway Mall has been sold! We’re dancing in the streets (for those of us living in the surrounding hood) with as much hope as when the place first was built just before the 2002 Winter Olympics. There are a whole lot of changes coming from the reigning lords of open air malls, Vestar. With 50 such retail properties from Arizona to Texas, they appear to know what to do … [Read more...]

Dented Brick Distillery – A Well, A Will and Sweet Serendipity

May 26, 2016 by Pepper Provenzano Leave a Comment

What would possess someone to open a distillery in liquor-challenged Utah, where a “sin tax” gobbles profit margins? Marc Christensen, a man possessed, is hard at it within a stone’s throw of Temple Square in the capital of the tee-totaling Mormon culture. “When you think about it, where better to distill great spirits than in a deeply spiritual community?” Christensen … [Read more...]

May 25, 2016 by Dan Potts Leave a Comment

Everything from small pots to larger, deeper box beds, and even more creative receptacles such as wheelbarrows and plastic tubs can successfully be used to grow everything from cilantro to sweet corn. Some can even be placed on casters so they can be … [Read more...]

May 23, 2016 by Utah Stories Leave a Comment

In an ongoing process, the residents and businesses of the 21st and 21st area of Sugar House are working to develop a master plan for the area. Two hundred residents attended two recent open houses to voice their opinions. Their biggest concerns were building heights and pedestrian safety. A lot of people don't want apartment development. Susan Koelliker, one of the trustees … [Read more...]

Moab’s Bluejohn Canyon

May 20, 2016 by Richard Markosian

One of the many remote, seldom traveled, yet now famous places near Moab, Utah is Bluejohn Canyon. If the place name doesn’t sound familiar, perhaps the movie 127 Hours starring James Franco does. Or perhaps the name Aron Ralston rings a bell. He saved his life by amputating his own arm after it became pinned under an errant chock stone. Traveling throughout Utah and … [Read more...]

Babs in the City – Mormon Tea and Me

May 19, 2016 by Babs De Lay Leave a Comment

By Babs De Lay: Broker Urban Utah Homes & Estates The May issue of Utah Stories has a few bits on coffee. But I don’t drink it. I’m a black tea with cream kinda person. So Bah! to your hipster coffee concoctions and double Bah! on coffee shops that don’t offer a good black tea option. The only time I had a regular experience (no pun intended) with coffee was when I was a … [Read more...]
