Sometimes Walls Can Talk On a cold winter day a handful of years ago, Tom McWhorter got out his tools for a wall demo project. Tom, a self-described remodeling artist by profession, has been slowly reshaping his Lake Street home’s interior not only to upgrade its functionality, but also to add architectural interest. He began carefully removing the original lath and … [Read more...]

Roosters Brewing Celebrates 20 years in Ogden

July 17, 2015 by Ogden Reborn Leave a Comment

“We are a big fish in a little pond. We use food, time, and love to make an impact.” ~Kym Buttschardt, Owner, Roosters Brewing Co. If you take a glance into Ogden’s not-so-distant past, 25th Street wasn’t always the desirable location that it is today. Many of the charming little storefronts were boarded-up and run-down, and the street was rife with gang activity. Most … [Read more...]

UFO Watching in Utah

July 16, 2015 by Caroline Kingsley Leave a Comment

Is it a Bird or a Plane? You’ve hiked, skied and rappelled Utah’s mountains; you’ve visited the museums, galleries and historic buildings; and you’ve dined in all the trendy and hole-in-the-wall restaurants. But have you looked up? You may or may not believe in flying saucers and little green men, but the possibility is worth exploring in a state that has been a hotbed … [Read more...]

Hidden Utah: Dugway Revisted

July 15, 2015 by Richard Markosian Leave a Comment

For probably the first issue ever, we don't begin our series of stories in Utah but in Nevada, in an electronics store parking lot in Las Vegas. I'm returning a piece of equipment I bought to charge my camera battery. I've finally found the charger I need and I'm on my way. But what I'm about to witness can't be caught on my Nikon 3300. Out of nowhere, a spinning, invisible … [Read more...]

Salt Lake Acting Company – Saturday’s Voyeur

July 14, 2015 by Linda Wheatley Leave a Comment

“The Book of Mormon” has been a hit Broadway musical for four years now.  Mormon parody is certainly not just a Utah thing; it has become a national pastime, winning Trey Parker and Matt Stone nine Tony awards. But they are actually late comers. Salt Lake Acting Company has been poking fun at Mormons for 37 years! So the question becomes, now that Mormon parody is mainstream, … [Read more...]

July 13, 2015 by Paige Wiren Leave a Comment

Here’s a healthcare joke. Q: What do they call “alternative medicine” in China? A: Medicine Medieval medicine practices such as bloodletting, leeching and swallowing mercury-- have not stood the test of time. The exception is the practice of “acupuncture,” which is now over 2,000 years old. Practitioners believe that by putting needles into one’s body they can tap into our … [Read more...]
