Locals need a place to live, and Q Clothing owners Amy Leininger and Kellie Michaelis want to give local a home. “We support over 18 local jewelry designers and offer Q Clothing as a platform for their brick and mortar,” Amy beams. “I’m a huge supporter of the buy-local movement and enjoy the benefits small businesses like Q Clothing offer their customers.” Their “claim to fame,” Kellie says, “is supporting local designers,” and notes that they also carry “two local clothing designers, and a few more local people who make coasters, photo albums, flasks and adorable mustache mugs.” Their clothing price points support local shoppers as well! Q Clothing participates in SLC’s Gallery Stroll and showcases a new artist’s work in their space every month.
Amy and Kellie assumed ownership of Q Clothing in February of this year. Owning a boutique is “the ultimate dream” for Amy who says she “swoons over all things sweet and feminine sprinkled with a bit of vintage flair.” “We offer everything from shoes to dresses, tops, denim, scarves…you name it,” Kellie notes. “And I honestly can say that I couldn’t have asked for a better business partner than Amy.” This enthusiastic duo’s match made in heaven comes to life at their Broadway location. “I think we fit in well here,” says Amy. “The Broadway Shopping District is the hippest in town.”
For Kellie, the most exciting part of owning and operating Q is being part of downtown. “We love the people in our neighborhood, and I’m very proud to see what downtown has become in the past several years,” she says.
Having sustained first-year challenges, Kellie and Amy are moving into 2014 with a lot of energy. “We’re poised for growth,” Amy shares. “We’re in the process of creating a website through which we can sell online. We’re changing our logo; and we look forward to hosting more events!”
