Local Eatery Closes: Sudden Closure Leaves 40 Employees Jobless

Another Salt Lake restaurant closes this week as the Local Eatery and Bar shuts its doors. Plans are in the works to use the space for private events.

The Local Closes

Sadly, this is the third week in a row that I’ve had to share news of a restaurant closing. First was SLC Eatery, then Amour Spreads/Cafe, now The Local Eatery & Bar, which closed suddenly last Sunday. I can’t say I’m surprised. I’ve been hearing for months about the lack of customers at The Local. 

The Salt Lake Tribune reported that 40 employees lost their jobs and were informed two days before closing that “they’re going to just cut the losses and shut it down,” according to the kitchen manager at The Local. 

The Local posted this on Instagram and Facebook: 

“To our loyal supporters, we wanted to inform you that we will be making some exciting changes to The Local Eatery & Bar. In preparation for these changes, The Local Eatery & Bar will be temporarily closing beginning Sunday, September 22 at 9:00 PM.” The post went on to say that “the space will still be available for private events.” 

Family Feast at The Salt Republic

“To celebrate Utahns’ sense of togetherness, The Salt Republic, the upscale downtown restaurant within the new Hyatt Regency Salt Lake City, launches their Family Meal series on September 20th,” said the folks at the Hyatt. “Helmed by the masterful Chef Francis, the Family Meal showcases the finest local bounty in keeping with Salt Lake City’s rich history of farm-to-table dining.”

“Four exquisite courses form a flavorful tribute to the city’s unique culinary landscape. Every Friday through the end of the year beginning at 5:30PM, the Family Meal series menu is reinvigorated to offer new adventures in flavor and presentation. The new dining series brings together the rich flavors of the region with the warmth of communal dining. Dinners highlight local ingredients and culinary traditions, while maintaining the elevated, unpretentious vibe that Salt Lake has come to embody.”

The experience can accommodate up to 10 people. Tickets are available for purchase on Tock and begin at $100 per person. For an additional $60, diners can expect an exceptional wine pairing curated by the Chef.

What’s New & Available at PC Wine Fest

The Park City Wine Festival kicks off on October 3rd and the organizers reached out to me to let everyone know what events are new and what tickets are still available. Here’s the breakdown.

Steakhouse Sake vs Wine Dinner at KITA

Best of Fest, an all-inclusive food and beverage tasting on-mountain. Wines that make the cut for this premier event average over $100 per bottle and are 90+ point rated. 

3-Course Autumn Wine Lunch at St. Regis Deer Valley, an unforgettable afternoon of dining and wine tasting that captures the essence of fall.

Wine is Blind. During this late-night, blind wine tasting you’ll get to know mystery wines (all 90+ rated) and vote for your favorite based on the flavor profile alone. There will be decadent desserts and a live DJ at this cocktail-themed party.

And, of course, the can’t miss Grand Tastings. Sip from 500 wines from around the world while you savor the scenery of Park City in the fall. This tasting is accompanied by light gourmet bites and live tunes. Early Access for Friday is sold out with more sessions to become sold out shortly.
