One of my very favorite winemakers is Sonoma-based Will Bucklin, who makes wines from grapevines that date back to the founding of his Old Hill Ranch in 1851. The smallish (24-acre) Old Hill Ranch vineyard is a fry-farmed Zinfandel field blend. I’m especially fond of Bucklin Old Hill Ranch Zinfandel Bambino Field Blend 2015 ($19.99), which was made with 81% Zinfandel, 9% Petite Sirah, 4% Alicante Bouchet, and the remainder a smattering of Syrah, Grenache and Carignane. Plum and cherry flavors combine with intense aromatics in this bold Zinfandel that I found to be a perfect partner for grilled pork chops.

Will Bucklin
