If you need to pick up some fresh basil, green onions or a cool ripe melon, you don’t have to wait until Saturday to fight with the crowds downtown: A new Farmers Market has sprouted up in SugarHouse next to the Obelisk on 21st.

sugarhouse famrers marketYou can find fresh local produce coming right off the farms like mint, zucchini and squash, carrots and peppers, tomatoes and corn as well as fruits like melons and cherries. The SugarHouse Farmers Market opens every Friday afternoon from 3 until 9 and runs until mid October. With more than 40 local vendors like Gardner’s Co-op, Kuwahara Produce, Bug Farms and 3 Squares Produce and non produce vendors such as Whispers Cafe and Karen weavers of Burma, there is something for everyone. The Market is the brainchild of local merchants who needed a market to connect the local farms with the community. “We wanted this Farmers Market to be 100% community run” explained Lydia Martinez, head chairperson of the Farmers Market. And with the help of local sponsors and merchants like Sugar House Furniture, the Farmers Market is a great Friday stop and shouldn’t be missed.
